- This workshop is open to a wide range of participants, including software developers, database administrators, DevOps engineers, data architects, backend developers, system administrators, IT managers, data engineers, and anyone interested in learning or deepening practical skills with Apache Cassandra.
- Introduction to NoSQL and CassandraL Big Data concepts, NoSQL overview, CAP theorem, Cassandra intro
- Cassandra Architecture Deep Dive: Cluster topology, nodes, data distribution, replication, gossip
- Setting Up Cassandra & AxonOps Workbench: Installing Cassandra locally, using Workbench, first queries (attendees can pre-install this before joining)
- CQL Basics & Getting Started: Keyspaces, tables, data types, CRUD operations
- Data Modeling for Cassandra: Primary/partition keys, clustering, denormalization, best practices
- Hands-On Data Modeling Exercise: Modeling 1–2 popular use cases (time series, IOT, etc.)
- Application Development Overview: Connecting apps, drivers, key patterns, integration walkthrough
- DevOps Cluster Management & Operations:Scaling, adding/removing nodes, configuration files
- Monitoring, Performance & Troubleshooting: Metrics, logs, nodetool, alerts, repair, compaction, tuning, Snapshots
- Security Essentials: Authentication, authorization, TLS/SSL
- Backup, Restore & Disaster Recovery: restoring data, cluster recovery
- Advanced Tips & Real-World Scenarios: Multi-datacenter, common pitfalls, Q&A discussion
- Workshop Wrap-up & Next Steps: Free AxonOps subscription usage, community resources, open Q&A"
- Familiarity with basic database concepts (relational or NoSQL) and general programming/development experience.
- Pre-installed AxonOps Workbench (downloadable from https://axonops.com/workbench), on their laptop. This is required for hands-on exercises. Workbench enables running Cassandra locally and offers a modern interface.
- Installed Docker or Podman (choose either one) to enable running Cassandra containers on their laptop vis Workench. Installation guides for Docker and Podman are available on their respective official websites.
- Recommended: Try launching and interacting with an Apache Cassandra 5 local cluster through AxonOps Workbench ""Local Clusters"" feature before attending. Assistance will be available at the workshop during and after for setup or troubleshooting if issues arise. These steps ensure the workshop is interactive and productive, but the content is designed to be valuable for all attendees, with or without pre-installed tooling.
