DevOps is a relatively new practice of software engineering and there is a huge demand of DevOps skilled professionals in the IT industry. This workshop starts with the importance of DevOps in a software product development, installation procedure of DevOps toolchain, practical approach to enable continuous build, test, delivery, deployment and monitoring in a pre-installed web application. Github, Jenkins, Maven, Rundeck, Docker and ELK tools are used in this workshop to create a DevOps framework.

Objective of the workshop

Adapting DevOps model of software production helps to achieve any incremental changes or any new features are developed for a product by the development team will be ready to deploy into the production servers quickly after passing through the build, testing, QA and deployment stages in an automated manner. In this workshop, we will provide pre-installed DevOps tools in a Container (virtual machine too) and create a DevOps framework to develop a software project. Participants can understand briefly about various DevOps tools, building CI/CD pipeline and enable automation in the Software Development Life Cycle from code building to deployment.

This workshop starts with the importance of DevOps in a software product development, installation procedure of DevOps toolchain, practical approach to enable continuous build, test, delivery, deployment and monitoring in a pre-installed web application. Github, Jenkins, Maven, Rundeck, Docker and ELK tools are used in this workshop to create a DevOps framework.Participant in this workshop will be given a pre-installed DevOps toolchain and web application in a docker container or virtual machine. So, the participants can copy (GitHub link will be given) and launch the container or VM on their laptops. We will guide you how to add new features to the application, create test-cases for the changes and enable continuous building, testing, deployment and monitoring of the changes in the applications that you have done.

About Speaker

Dr. B. Thangaraju received his Ph.D. in Physics and worked as a research associate (1996-2001) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc.), Bangalore, India, before joining Talent Transformation, Wipro Technologies (2001-2016). From 2017, he has been working as a Professor in International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore (IIITB) and coordinating the Open Source Technology Lab at IIITB. His core expertise lies in the Linux kernel, with knowledge of embedded, real-time Linux, open source software (OSS), and DevOps. He has published more than 75 papers on OSS and has presented 34 technical papers at national and international conferences.
