Overview:

IoT is an evolving area. The purpose of the workshop is to present a current technological snapshot. The architectures, protocols, processors as well as sensors and actuators in use today are looked into.Free source development tools introduced in an earlier lecture will be further discussed in the context of the overall ecosystem. A simple demo application and its development will be taken up to illustrate the typical development process. The technology overview will bring out the areas that are changing,so that participants have a complete picture of the situation and exactly how it is going to change over the future.

Course Contents:
Generally IoT systems involve sensors & actuators at the lowest level with a processor managing the local processing. The things/objects housing these structures need to communicate both ways through the internet cloud. Current technology, significant trends and standardization activities in these areas along with appropriate free source development tools will be covered.

Like many evolving technological advancements it is difficult to get a complete picture. Most often the one gets a fragmented view of the landscape. It is essential for future developers and technology managers to get a good feel of the current scenario and how that is likely to change.

Detailed and modular and interactive presentations on the significant areas. The demo will illustrate important development steps through an application running on a free-source hardware (Raspberry Pi) being controlled through the Internet.

About the Speaker:
Debasis received his BE degree in Electronics Engineering from the Jadavpur University, Kolkata in 1968. His M Tech was from IIT, Kanpur in Electrical Engineering (Computer Science Major) in 1979.
Debasis worked in DRDO for sixteen years in advanced defence communication systems, unmanned aerial vehicles, satellite remote sensing including earth stations, multi-spectral sensors, image analysis, etc. He spent the following twenty two years in the Indian Software Industry working in senior business manager positions with software industry majors like the HCL, PCS, Rolta (twice), Neilsoft, Genesys International and technology companies like DG2L technologies(twice), Zintec Software, Parsec Technologies( US stint), Global Edifice, etc. He has been a keen trainer and personally led the training of juniors in these high technology areas. Development methodologies, processes, QA, architecture, software engineering, system engineering and effective project management have been his focus areas. Some of the coveted clients for whom he has delivered high-end technology program include Toshiba Landis-Gyr, HCL, Patni, etc.
He supervised a computer development lab that developed products for the computer series Horizon and Magnum and IBM PC for HCL for five years in the early days of computer industry in India. He worked with PCS too, for five years building their engineering services division that provided off-shore
